The reason my cupboards don't stay organized
So this morning as I was doing my morning quick clean up I couldn't find "Little one". I came around the bar in the kitchen and found him playing in my cupboard, grabbed my camera, and by then he was off. Look at my cupboard! AHHHH!!!!
Oh well, at least he had fun and he is oh so cute so I guess its ok!

Hello "Little One" I love that sweet little "I was just into mischief and still have sleepy eyes Look" Love you bud!

..Yummy Snack...

So this is my new favorite snack. Cinnamon and brown sugar almonds. In the afternoon when I am really wanting something to munch on, I grab a handful of these babies. They are great to help hold you over until dinner.
I love that on the side of the container it has a way to measure how much you are eating. Very rarely will I count out the amount in a serving size. I like to just dump them in my hand and eat. This little window on the side breaks it down by ounces! SO NICE!!
I like to keep my containers, buy a big bag, and fill them up again!
Try them. Its a nice alternative to candy and a lot more filling!

I LOVE my Trees.....but.....

Every year our town has an annual garage sale. Its such a cool idea. Anyone that wants to have a garage sale on that day signs up at the city office and then they make a map of ALL the garage sales and their locations. Its so fun to walk down a street and have 5 or sometimes more gargage sales to look at. We look forward to this every year. I normally go with my sister in law. We load up in the truck and off we go to find some treasures. This year she wasn't up to it because she is about to have a new baby, can't say that I blame her. I was in the same position last year and it was alot of walkin.
So, I talked my hubby into going with me. He drove and I shopped. The kids loved going for the ride. My Hubby didn't quite know what to expect and did NOT want to get out and look at all, this was my thing. By the middle of the day he was jumping out of the truck and getting things too. We ended up with 2, not 1, 2 truck loads!! Less than 100 dollars for soooo much good stuff.
I saw these trees and had to have them. 5 dollars, thats right, 5 dollars. I actually had people wanting to buy them out of my truck when we stopped somewhere. I got them home only to realize they smelled terrible!!! They smelled like smoke! GRRRR! I was ready to toss them and was wishing I would have sold them and made some money.

So I started trying to clean them and get the smell out. I asked everyone I saw. I even had my neighbor smell them a few million time to see if anything was working. I first washed them down, them sprayed lysol, still smelly. Then I got some febreeze, that stuff would work for sure! I thought I had fixed it, but no. It was still as smelly as can be just with a new smell on top of it. Then I tried some glade deodorizer, smelled good for a minute, but then smelly. I had given up for the day and put them in my gargage and called it a night. The next day I went to check on them and my entire garge smelled. OH JOY!! Gotta love that. So I set them outside and let them "AIR OUT"

A few days went by and still they smelled awful. I was ready to give up. I looked on the internet and it said to use vinegar. So, I covered those trees with vinegar and was somewhat pleased, but the next morning, my garage stunk again and so did my trees. Finally, I busted out the trusty old BAKING SODA!!! I got the trees damp and then covered them. I let it sit for a little while and rinsed it off. I was so excited- NO SMELL, well a little, but it was sooooo much better. I did it again! TA DA!!! My trees don't have a smell anymore. I was so excited! Finally, and to think I almost gave up. Those are the cleanest trees in the world right now. So word to the wise, make sure when buying at a garage sale to know what the items have "lived" in!

This is my new project. It used to be an entertainment center, but it will soon be a toy organizer for the toy room. I will post the end result hopefully soon! I'm so excited about it. I have BIG plans.

This table is another find from the garage sale. Isn't it beautiful! It is even the really heavy duty wood! I love it. I bought for 20 bucks with the intention of refinishing it black or a darker brown for my basement, but it seems to look nice in my newly empty living room. It is taking the spot the piano used to be. Hopefully we'll get a piano in there again soon, but until then, I think this works.
What do you think? Should I refinish it or leave it the way it is?

Catching up!

It has been CRAZY around here lately. I'm sure its crazy for all of you too. Its just that time of year. We were the lucky recipients of some nasty bug and have been SICK, SICK, SICK for a week! Finally we see the light at the end of the tunnel. I do have to be grateful that my baby didn't seem to be affected by it at all, just the rest of us.
Tomorrow I hope to get back on the normal schedule of blogging, cleaning, organizing, and showing some crafts.
Today is kind of top to bottom Tuesday. I am not going to organize a project today, just clean up the house for a little party we are having here tonight. I do have to say, its so much easier and hasn't been as stressful getting ready for it, since I've started being a better organizer and cleaner. My house has stayed cleaner with ALOT LESS EFFORT it seems! YAY!! Ya gotta love that!
Hope you all had a great Memorial Day. Its so nice to visit the graves and reflect on the memories of all of the special people that have taught us so much. It makes me miss them, but I am grateful to have had them in my life!

Flip Flop Fun

Look how CUTE!! My cute friend Chantel made these for her little girl. They are SO easy and SUPER fun. All you need
#1 a pair of flip flops,
#2 water balloons
Then tie the balloons in knots onto the flip flops and TA-DA!! A cute, fun, and festive way to wear your flip flops. AND... you have water balloons at your "finger" tips incase of a water fight!
Thanks for the great idea!!

Gumball machine

Did anyone see the cute gumball machine they made on Good things Utah today? It was Adorable and simple. Go here to see it and get instructions.

Its Tuesday!!

Normally on Tuesdays I would have my top to bottom Tuesday, and I am going to try and get to it today, but we are a little under the weather. Two sick little boys and a momma that is getting it too, is not a good combination! We have never had croup at our house until now. I think its getting better though. We have only had one real episode of the "barking/baby seal" sounding cough attack. It wasn't fun! We'll see how the day goes. Maybe I'll actually get something done, or maybe a nap sounds good too. We'll see.

For Halloween last year I got a little sign as a gag gift from one of our Halloween parties. It has just been collecting dust around my house so I decided to make something useful out of it. I know I took a picture of it before I started, but I don't know if I deleted it or what, cause I can't find it!!
I took the little sign and used my trusty mod podge and scrapbook paper. I found the cute little lion at Walmart of all places. I cut out some vinyl to add to the bottom. I keep this on my babies door. It just looks cute and he LOVES to play with it on the doornob!

Turned out pretty cute, its better than having it lay around and collect dust.
I made a magnet board to match, but its not quite ready to go yet. I'll post it when its all done.

Meaningful Mondays

So sorry that Monday is half way over and I'm just getting to my thought of the day. Here is another quote from Elder Uchtdorf.
"Being compassionate is [a] great work of our Heavenly Father and a fundamental characteristic of who we are as a people. We are commanded to 'succor the weak, lift up the hands which hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees' (D&C 81:5). Disciples of Christ throughout all ages of the world have been distinguished by their compassion. Those who follow the Savior 'mourn with those that mourn . . . and comfort those that stand in need of comfort' (Mosiah 18:9).
"When we reach out to bless the lives of others, our lives are blessed as well. Service and sacrifice open the windows of heaven, allowing choice blessings to descend upon us. Surely our beloved Heavenly Father smiles upon those who care for the least of His children.
"As we lift others, we rise a little higher ourselves. President Spencer W. Kimball taught, 'The more we serve our fellowmen in appropriate ways, the more substance there is to our souls' (The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, ed. Edward L. Kimball [1982], 254)."
I love this quote and it is so true. Ever notice that the times you are the happiest, you are helping others and the times you aren't you're ususally focused on yourself. I have noticed it. I am going to focus more this week on helping others. Have a happy Monday.

Weighin in Wednesday!

In my quest to become healthier I thought the ultimate way to help me eat heathier and get back in shape would be to weigh in every wednesday.
So here goes,
Today my starting weight is............
..................................NO WAY!!! I'm not that crazy. Can we say, ultimate humilation having the entire world know my weight when most of the time I don't even care to know it. I will weigh in on Wednesdays, but that will remain where it should be, in my head only!
My goals for this week are to eat balanced meals. I tend to snack all day and not on good things either. Ever notice when you eat balanced meals, protein, good carbs, good fats, fruits, veggies, fiber, that you aren't as hungry? Its true. There is something to all those people telling you to eat that way. I am also FOR SERIOUS this time, ( ha, I sound like a teenager, I should have added "LIKE" in there) am going to start working out.
Did you guys watch the biggest loser last night? I love that show, besides the fact my 2 year old picked up a bad word from it, I love how inspiring it is. It has helped me to focus on being healthy for me, my husband, and my kids! I want to teach them healthy eating habits and help them to be active. The best way I know how is by example. So, heres to day one of being better.
"Weighing in" on Reality
So I know this in no way helps me to be a better homemaker or crafty, but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents about my favorite reality shows. We love Biggest Loser, American Idol, and Dancing with the Stars. So here are my thoughts....I promise this won't become a habit.
Biggest Loser-
I wasn't thrilled that Helen won. I really liked some of the other contestants better, but then I realized that she put all that effort in, so she must deserve it. She was awfully skinny though. Tara and Mike looked great, everyone did really. How amazing they changed their lives for the better! How can you not be happy for them. Even if they didn't win the money, they got a lot from the experience. I would love to have Bob or Jillian train me. I would cry, lets just get that out. They are tough. But I must say I thought Alison, the host, looked fabulous. She just had a baby and I thought she looked great. Maybe she should have been the Biggest Loser. Anyways all in all a very inspiring night!
American Idol
So my pick for the American Idol doesn't go with the judges, in fact I completely disagree. I thought that Danny did a good job, not so sure about that first song, but he did great with what he had to work with. I loved his second song. He is a classy guy. I'm wondering if I would buy his album when it comes out, what kind of music will it be?
Adam, oh Adam. He is super talented, he hits notes I've never heard before, but he's just not someone that I would ever listen to. I love when he sings soft and keeps his tongue in his mouth, but as soon as he starts screaming and sticking his tongue out, he loses me. Sounds a bit screechy to me. I loved the start of the U2 song, but he lost me half way through. Cryin, well, lets just say I like the Aerosmith version ALOT better, ok, I'm trying to be positive here, but its not getting my point across, I really really didn't like it!:)
My pick is Kris(Chris). How does he spell it? I think that he will make an album no matter what, but I like his style and his voice. Its something that I would listen to and I can actually imagine hearing him on the radio. I thought he did a good job on his first song, but I have to agree, it didn't really stand out as amazing, but I still liked it. I loved his last song! Put it on the radio!! He seems like a really nice guy too, so in a perfect world he would be my winner. Don't think it will happen, but oh well.
Dancing with the stars
I missed Dancing with the stars, but I heard it was Ty. He was a stud, but it was time for him to go. We'll see who wins!
Anyone excited for "The Bachelorette"?

Top to Bottom Tuesday Part 2

So here is my bathroom, looks harmless, right. I keep the outside very clean, its my drawers that can be a little scary. The main mess is here. I have so much and over time it just got all mangled together.
I took everything out first and cleaned the drawer, YUCK!! It was a bit gross, nothing the vaccum and some clorox wipes couldn't fix!

I cleaned each product and organized them. Brushes, lipsticks, eyeshadows. I only put the ones in the drawer that I use most of the time. I had some little containers I had bought a long time ago, so I used those to separate everything.

I had so much extra in this drawer that I used plastic baggies to organize all the eyeshadows by color.

It was so nice to see what I actually had. I found somethings that I had totally forgotten about. I'm excited to use them again. One thing I did do that I thought would be hard was throw a bunch away. When I worked at a makeup counter I would wear tons of different colors and things that really stood out, but I haven't touched them since I stopped working there. SO, they had to go! Can't you just imagine me cleaning the house and going for a walk around the neighborhood with blue, green, and purple eyeshadow on all at once. :) Maybe I'll try it someday just to see what kind of crazy looks I can get. I did keep some of the bright stuff!

Top To Bottom Tuesday!!

Good morning!! Top to bottom favorite(sacastic)...although I am learning to like it! Today is a HUGE day for me. In the entire time we have been married, I'm pretty sure it is entire time, I have never accomplished what I am going to accomplish today! We're talking, I'm going to be markin it on my calendar accomplishment. You ready for it......I finally have ALL the laundry done!!! Not kidding around either! For me this is a huge accomplishment. I HATE the laundry, it should be a 4 letter word in my eyes, however once it is done, its not too bad.

I have been doing so much better on keeping my house clean so I don't have such a huge job every morning. That gives me so much more time to spend with my sweet kiddo's!! One thing that has been helping me.... every morning when we wake up( the kids are early risers, so they wake me up), we change diapers and get dressed! Then I am one of the lucky women that after having a baby it messed up my thyroid, so fun, anyways, I have to take a pill in the morning and wait at least 30 minutes to eat. I take that 30 minutes and make beds and straighten the house. I start a load of laundry and pick up everything. I am amazed at what a difference this has made. I even have my little 2 year old help, He LOVES to help carry laundry and help me fold. He loves to take things to the garbage can. He feels so big and proud to help mommy.

In the past week of starting this blog, I can say it, my house is cleaner longer, I am more organized, and happier too. I don't feel so stressed about getting my house clean all the time because it is getting better. WAHOO!!

SO for my project of the day... I am going to clean TOP TO BOTTOM my master bathroom. My drawers are a mess, usually the boys love to play in the bottom ones, but my makeup drawer is scary. For those who know me, know that I worked doing makeup before I was married, so I have a ton!!! My supply is dwindling, but still its out of control. I am going to tame the wild beast that is my makeup drawer today. I also am going to do it without buying anything to organize with. I want to use things I have around the house. That way I can reuse things I already have and I can save money. Who said you need to spend money to get organized?
I'll post pictures later on today! Have a happy Tuesday! Congrats to the winners, again. If you haven't contacted me, please do!!

For todays meaningful Monday(still working on the name) Comes from one of my all time favorite people! I think many of you will agree.
"There is no end to the good we can do, to the influence we can have with others. Let us not dwell on the critical or the negative. Let us pray for strength; let us pray for capacity and desire to assist others. Let us radiate the light of the gospel at all times and all places, that the Spirit of the Redeemer may radiate from us."
Gordon B. Hinckley
This is another one of my goals. I want be postive and see the good in all things. ..Being a Mommy..

So I was going to post a craft today, but I came across this from Elder Uchtdorf and I thought it was so great I decided to share this. I think many times we say and think "I'm just a mom", that in itself is something pretty HUGE and SPECIAL!! As I am reflecting on what being a mom means to me, I feel so blessed to be a mother to my sweet little kiddo's. This truely is a hard, rewarding, fun, challenging, amazing and fufilling calling! I heard a quote once that said, "If you think my hands are full, you should see my HEART!" I feel like my hands are soo full, I really need about 10 of them and they would still be full, but my heart is overflowing with the love and joy I feel when I look at my babies!
"If you are a mother, you participate with God in His work of creation—not only by providing physical bodies for your children but also by teaching and nurturing them. If you are not a mother now, the creative talents you develop will prepare you for that day, in this life or the next.
"You may think you don't have talents, but that is a false assumption, for we all have talents and gifts, every one of us (see D&C 46:11–12). The bounds of creativity extend far beyond the limits of a canvas or a sheet of paper and do not require a brush, a pen, or the keys of a piano. Creation means bringing into existence something that did not exist before—colorful gardens, harmonious homes, family memories, flowing laughter.
"What you create doesn't have to be perfect. . . . Don't let the voices of critics paralyze you—whether that voice comes from the outside or the inside.
"If you still feel incapable of creating, start small. Try to see how many smiles you can create, write a letter of appreciation, learn a new skill, identify a space and beautify it."
-Elder Uchtdorf

.Top to Bottom Tuesday.

I am SUPER excited about my new Tuesdays....well, I'm sure I will be once I get started. So, in my in new found desire to get organized, I decided that I would make Tuesdays my day to clean and organize one room or one area TOP TO BOTTOM!!

Oh dear, I'm already a bit overwhelmed!

I have so many places I need to do, but really none that I am wanting to do right at this moment. See THIS is the exact reason I need to have this blog!! (LONG PAUSE) OK, Ok I just decided to start with a project that I will feel some sense of accomplishment, but I won't be overwhelmed with. Lets work ourselves into the BIG stuff! I am going to tackle PARTS of my kitchen. The only reason I say parts is because I only have a day, plus 2 little boys that need mommas attention when they are awake. SO Here goes. I will post before and after photo's when when I am finished. YIKES-I'm not so sure I want to show how bad my TUPPERWARE DRAWER and UNDER THE SINK are, but here goes.

Choose one day a week, or whenever you have the time, to clean and organize one area!! I think making sure its always around the same time will help me to JUST GET IN AND DO IT!!

I am hoping to one day look back and this and see how far I have come! Maybe one day I'll absolutly LOVE doing this!!

Ok so I just finished and thought I'd just add right on to this post instead of an entirely new one.

I can't believe how FAST AND EASY and dare I say FUN! I had it all done in about 30 minutes and that even included a timeout for my 2 year old, my baby stealing my tupperware and a phonecall. WOW !! So I decided to do my spices and baking things too.

You know I do feel so PROUD of myself. I had to give my husband a call and tell him what I had done. Sounds funny to most of you who are wonderful organizers and would never dream of having your cupboards look like my before pictures, but I feel good for doing it!!

Here are my before and afters,

This mess is courtesy of me! I tend to just throw everything back under there cause I'm in a hurry!

This mess is courtesy of the boys! Its one of the favorite play places in the house.

All in all I think this is going to be a success! I guess I CAN do it!

...Meaningful Monday... (ok the name needs some work)

Happy Monday morning! If you're anything like me, getting out of bed on Monday morning is TOUGH!!
Thanks to everyone for your comments and support. This is kind of crazy and new for me but I'm SOOO excited. SO, I decided that since Monday is not my favorite day of the week, I'm going to work on making it a more UPLIFTING day. Just coming off of a Sunday where it's so peaceful, I thought I could drag a little bit of Sunday on to Monday.
For now I am going to call it "MEANINGFUL MONDAYS". I am going to post a thought, quote, or something that I need to help start my day/week off in the right direction.
Todays thought/quote I really like. I came across it last night as my husband and I were crossing our fingers that our 2 year old would stay in bed. It is from Elder M. Russel Ballard, given in a talk to some young adults.
"I am so thoroughly convinced that if we don't set goals in our lives and learn how to master the techniques of living to reach our goals, we can reach a ripe old age and look back on our life only to see that we reached but a small part of our full potential. When one learns to master the principles of setting a goal, he will then be able to make a great difference in the results he attains in this life."
I loved this because this kind of sums up why I want to do this blog. So I can become better, Set goals and work to reach them.
SO today I am going to set a few goals to work on today and throughout this week. Take some time to write some down for yourself or post some on your blog. That way you have something to look at and remind you.
1. This week I want to eat healthier, sugar with every meal and inbetween is really not necessary.
2. I want to work on organizing one room top to bottom this week.
3. I want to dust off the old treadmill and go for a run this week.
4. Be more postive!
I am going to work on these this week. They may seem small to others, but these will challenge me. Next week, same time, same place, we can see how we did and set a new goal for the week.
Thanks for reading!

Grocery bags and tissue boxes

One thing that I've always wanted to be was a great organizer. I remember as kid loving to alphabetize my moms recipes and fun stuff like that. What happened, I'm not so sure that I would love doing that now. So in my quest to become a better organizer and have fun doing it, I simply looked around my kitchen and saw this.....

Look familiar? The entire bottom of my pantry looks like this. I decided to fix the problem, but how. So I looked around again and saw this...

So I pulled out the trusty mod podge (I love this stuff) and some scrapbook paper that I had laying around and came up with this...

So much better than a big mess in the bottom of my pantry. I am going to make another one to put in my bathroom. I can keep trashbags handy for dirty diapers, changing the garbage can liner, and have a cute little decoration all in one!!

All in all I think that organization like this isn't so bad after all. It was actually kinda fun. I can be an organizer after all!
